We just returned from nine somewhat chilly days in Arizona, and I am eager to get back to work in my studio. I’ll be starting a new drawing this week and have a good idea for something that, in my opinion, evokes spring. This photograph, however, is not related, other than it being a beautiful sunset shot on the night of the total lunar eclipse.
Here is another week of work on this little still-life. It measures 10.5 x 8.5 inches, and is almost done. I will probably just go back and do some touch-ups here and there. I’m happy with it; it has a very nice palette, light and composition. (Click on thumbnail and then on next photograph for best view).
One of my favorite vegetables since an early age have been artichokes, so when I came across this quote I thought it was great fun.
“Life is like an artichoke: each day, week, month, year, gives you one little bit which you nibble off – but precious little compared with what you throw away”. – Oliver Wendell Holmes

One week of work and one can start to see what the still-life is composed of. I am having a lot of fun drawing this piece, as besides the shell, I have never drawn anything in this particular still-life before.
I don’t know if the following is from one of her poems or taken from correspondence, but this quote was in the Boston Globe last week and I liked it.
“I hope you love birds, too. It is economical. It saves going to heaven” -Emily Dickinson
I will be posting another photograph of my new drawing on Friday – please check back!
