WIP on Rtistx Board

Filed under: colored pencil,Nature Still-life — Debbi @ 5:16 pm

Today I was interviewed and videotaped by the press from the Wellesley cable station for a spotlight on my artwork in conjunction with the show I currently have on display at the Dorset Tea and Coffee Cafe (www.dorsetcafe.com). First we taped a session in my studio, and then went down to the Dorset Cafe for some commentary about three pieces from the show. Thanks to Rob Santonastaso and Sarah Blodgett for their great work – I can’t wait to see the finished spotlight!

In addition to the above, I have so much time to work when my sons are away at camp! It’s almost frightening what I can accomplish when I’m alone in my studio all day. Here is a photo of the feather floating on water that I’m working on. I am getting more comfortable with the Rtistx board and don’t feel like I have to rush as much to “see how it will come out”. I am relaxing with the realization that I will achieve the results I’m looking for.Feather floating on water - 2nd post

  1. Debbi;

    The new piece is lovely. Do you like working on the new surface you are using? In the areas that are completed, how may layers of pencil do you have applied?

  2. Thanks, Lynda. I think the Rtistx is an interesting surface. I am still not a complete convert to sanded and/or textured surfaces, but they do hold a lot more pencil color a lot more quickly. I couldn’t tell you how many layers I’ve applied. For the water, I start with Marine Green, then go over that with Aquamarine, and then use Trued Green and then True Blue. That’s just for the base coat, and then I work on all the layers of color in the reflections.
