Hawk Drawing Continued

This is slow going right now, but I thought I’d post another photo of the progress on my new drawing – if only because the last photo showed so little!  The breast feathers are particularly difficult to capture.  There are lots of streaked feathers that are under some white feathers, so they show up as “echoes” of the visible chest streaks.  I don’t know if that makes any sense, but it’s difficult to capture, so I keep bouncing around from the bird to the leaf to the shadows underneath.

  1. You are not the only person who has dead animals in the freezer, I can think of several others. As for me, I will stick to drawing the candy apples and the sweets. I freak out if I find a dead mouse in my driveway! However, your drawing and rendering skills of your subjects is just superb. You show the viewer a whole different and thoughtful perspective of your subjects.

  2. Thanks, Kendra, for the compliment. I really do try to develop a different perspective with my work, yet keep it simple. I appreciate your saying what you did! Who knows, maybe someday I will do a little piece of a dynamite little sweet – you’ll be the first to know!

  3. Wow, Debbi, this is really nice. I love that the bird is lying on a leaf… it feels like a little touch of dignity, somehow.

  4. Thanks Liz. I wonder if people will like it as much when it’s done and it’s obvious it’s a dead bird in totality. I agree, the leaf (and there will be more leaves) add a kind of poetic note of grace. Thanks for checking in!
