Vase with Stones in Green – Stage 2
With the the glass vase complete it’s on to the really fun stuff! But as I write that I should note that the vase isn’t really finished. Already since I’ve taken this photograph I’ve deepened some areas where it interfaces with the rocks. But the fun stuff it watching it all pull together and come alive as each stone is drawn. I start with the darkest stones and move on to the lightest; and in this drawing, the darkest stones are the three on the bottom. I like the way the glass and reflections have developed, but it won’t really pull together until it’s all in place, and one can see why certain reflections are where they are.

I am intrigued to see what the stones are going to look like. You’ve done a wonderful job with the greens. Greens can be difficult to work with but you have aced it. Looks like you put the Graphtint pencils down and picked up the Prismacolor greens?

Pithy comment follows:
That glass looks amazing! Why is there a big white spot in the middle of the drawing?
Love sonny
P.S. I can’t wait to see this one develop! This drawing has a surreal feeling of depth. The contrasting greens and oranges/reds work great together.

Oh Debbi! This is looking amazing! The richness of the greens are beautiful and you’ve got both cool and warm working harmoniously! Fantastic! I can’t wait to see the continued progression.

Hi Kendra, Yes, I’ve not used the Graphitints on this drawing at all. The undercolors are Caran D’Ache and some Derwent Inktense, but the dry cp layers are entirely Prismacolor. I’m curious about your comment regarding greens being difficult. What have you found?
Sonny, Your comments are always a bright spot on my otherwise mundane work-a-day world.
BTW, your Dad thinks the same thing about the depth on this one!
Dianna, Thanks for your comments. It’s going to really come alive when the orange-ish, red and yellow stones are in the drawing. What are you working on these days? I’ll have to visit your blog.
