Downy Woodpecker Winter Roost

Filed under: Enlargement of photo post — Debbi @ 7:04 pm

A female Downy Woodpecker has taken to roosting in a bird house that’s mounted on the fence in our yard.  House wrens nest there in the summer, but they are long gone.  There’s just one woodpecker who goes in every night after stuffing herself at our suet feeder.  She moves into the house so quickly that it’s almost impossible to take a photo that isn’t blurry.  Sometimes I don’t even click the shutter in time, she’s so quick!
