Eastern Screech Owl in my yard

Eastern Screech owl in spruce tree, taken w/o telephoto lens

Last Sunday I was looking at a bird feeder in our yard and noticed what I thought was, at first, a squirrel or chipmunk,
but it had too much variation in it’s coloration to be either. Then I realized it was an owl! I don’t know what it was doing near this bird feeder, if it was hoping to catch a small bird for a meal, or just sunning itself. (If anyone knows anything about the Eastern Screech Owl’s dietary preferences, please tell me!) The photo above was taken without my telephoto lens, and through the window, as I didn’t know how long it would stay still. Then I got my telephoto lens and carefully waded closer through the snow on our deck, hoping for a better picture. The owl was aware of me the entire time, tried to make itself skinny and “invisible”, and remained in this spruce tree until sundown.
